About DRPS Academy
Overview
DRPS Academy offers on-demand radiation safety training for the people who work around radioactive material: laboratory staff, radioactive material shippers, and environmental services teams. Courses are developed and authored by Troy Zhou, PhD, DABR, DABSNM, a board-certified medical physicist, and built from primary regulatory sources.
Each course is a narrated video with clear learning objectives, followed by a post-test and a certificate of completion. Courses are designed around the requirements radiation safety programs answer to, including:
- NRC 10 CFR 19.12, instruction to workers
- NRC 10 CFR Part 20, dose limits and contamination control
- DOT 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H, hazmat employee training
- Agreement State radiation control regulations
Courses are general awareness training. They complement, and do not replace, your facility's procedures and the site-specific instruction your Radiation Safety Officer provides.

Radiation safety training for laboratory staff who handle carbon-14 — detection, contamination control, spills, and waste. English.
Caring for Patients Who Received Radioactive Therapy
Safety instruction for nurses and unit staff caring for patients who received radioactive therapy and cannot yet be released (10 CFR 35.310 and 35.410). English.
DOT Hazmat Training — Class 7 Radioactive
DOT hazmat employee training (49 CFR Subpart H) for anyone who prepares, packages, offers, receives, or unloads radioactive material. English.
General Radiation Safety for CT Technologists
Radiation safety for CT technologists and staff in the CT room — scatter, dose limits, dosimeters, CTDIvol/DLP/SSDE and Dose Check alerts. English.
General Radiation Safety for Radiation Workers
Radiation safety training for nuclear medicine, PET and hot-lab staff who work with radioactive material, built on 10 CFR Parts 19, 20 and 35. English.
General X-Ray Radiation Safety for Nurses
X-ray radiation safety for nurses and nursing assistants — portable x-ray at the bedside, fluoroscopy and C-arm procedures, dose limits and dosimeters. English.
MRI Safety: Level 1 and MRI Awareness
MRI safety for Level 1 MR personnel and non-MR staff — front desk, transport, EVS, security and facilities — based on the ACR Manual on MR Safety. English.
MRI Safety: Level 2 MR Personnel
In-depth MRI safety for MR technologists, radiologists and MR nurses with screening duties, based on the ACR Manual on MR Safety. English.
Radiation Awareness for EHS, Security and Patient Transport
Radiation awareness for EHS staff, security officers and patient transporters in hospitals with nuclear medicine, PET and therapy programs. English.
Radiation Safety for EVS / Housekeeping Staff
Short radiation safety training for environmental services and housekeeping staff who clean areas where radioactive material is used. English.
