General X-Ray Radiation Safety for Nurses
X-ray radiation safety for nurses and nursing assistants — portable x-ray at the bedside, fluoroscopy and C-arm procedures, dose limits and dosimeters. English.
Course Description
General x-ray radiation safety for nurses and nursing assistants who work where diagnostic x-ray equipment is used: portable x-ray at the bedside in the ICU, ED, NICU and wards; fluoroscopy and C-arm procedures in the OR, cath lab, IR and endoscopy suites; and CT and radiography areas. X-rays exist only during an exposure, and staff dose comes mainly from scatter off the patient. Covers distance and call-out habits, working near fluoroscopy and C-arms, aprons, thyroid shields and dosimeters, dose limits including pregnancy, and your patient-care and reporting responsibilities.
The course runs video, post-test, then certificate. The post-test unlocks after the full video has been watched and requires 80% to pass.
X-ray equipment is regulated by your state radiation control program; your facility adds its x-ray policy, local contacts and competency checks.
