Radiation Safety for EVS Staff — Carbon-14 Research Areas
Radiation safety training for environmental services and housekeeping staff who clean laboratories and clinical areas where carbon-14 is used. English.
Course Description
Radiation safety training for environmental services and housekeeping staff who clean laboratories and clinical areas where carbon-14 is used. Covers why proximity is not the hazard, participant sample handling, and why a silent survey meter proves nothing. Built on 10 CFR 19.12; staff who also clean nuclear medicine or PET areas need the separate EVS / Housekeeping course.
The course runs video, post-test, then certificate. The post-test unlocks after the full video has been watched and requires 80% to pass.
General awareness training; it does not replace your facility's procedures, your posted signs and action levels, or site-specific instruction from your Radiation Safety Officer.
Learning Objectives
- Explain why the carbon-14 hazard is intake rather than proximity
- Understand why a hand-held survey meter barely detects carbon-14
- Handle participant samples as radioactive
- Use gloves, hand washing, and in-area cleaning equipment correctly
- Respond to a spill — stop, keep people back, and call
- Prioritize a medical emergency over contamination concerns
