Carbon-14 Laboratory Radiation Safety
Radiation safety training for laboratory staff who handle carbon-14 — detection, contamination control, spills, and waste. English.
Course Description
Radiation safety training for laboratory staff who handle carbon-14. Covers the isotope's beta emission and range, why a survey meter barely detects it, contamination detection by wipe survey and liquid scintillation counting, quench and counting efficiency, action levels, spill and personal-contamination response, waste segregation and disposal routes, and who to contact by role.
The course runs video, post-test, then certificate. The post-test unlocks after the full video has been watched and requires 80% to pass.
General awareness training; it does not replace your facility's procedures, your posted action levels, or site-specific instruction from your Radiation Safety Officer.
Learning Objectives
- Explain what carbon-14 is and why its hazard is internal, not external
- Apply the rules for safe use at every step of laboratory work
- Perform and document contamination surveys by liquid scintillation wipe test
- Respond correctly to spills, loss, and unusual events
- Segregate and dispose of carbon-14 waste correctly
- Know your rights, your dose limits, and who to call
