General Radiation Safety for CT Technologists
Radiation safety for CT technologists and staff in the CT room — scatter, dose limits, dosimeters, CTDIvol/DLP/SSDE and Dose Check alerts. English.
Course Description
General radiation safety for CT technologists and for any staff who operate a CT scanner or may be in the CT room during scanning. X-rays exist only while the tube is on, and staff dose comes mainly from scatter off the patient. Covers where scatter is highest and where to stand; time, distance and shielding; aprons, thyroid shields and holding patients; occupational, pregnant-worker and public dose limits and your dosimeter; what CTDIvol, DLP and SSDE are and are not; Dose Check notifications and alerts; lessons from the CT brain perfusion overdose events; patient dose; and errors and reporting.
The course runs video, post-test, then certificate. The post-test unlocks after the full video has been watched and requires 80% to pass.
CT is regulated by your state radiation control program; your facility adds its radiation safety policy, CT protocols, local contacts and competency checks.
