The DSHS Radiation Control Program both registers X-ray machines and licenses radioactive materials under 25 TAC Chapter 289. Diagnostic X-ray use is governed by 25 TAC §289.227, which requires equipment performance evaluations (EPEs) performed by or under the supervision of a licensed medical physicist — annually (not to exceed 14 months) for CT and fluoroscopy, and every two years for other radiographic systems.
